Castlevania Lament of Innocence
posted Friday, September 8, 2006

Alright now... I have not played this for a long time, and my hardware is breaking down, so I am not performing at optimal conditions in this run through. I'm not intending to do another one, so please make do with this, and have fun with the game...

Another note : I believe this playthrough that you see can be better, because I did not really utilise the other items/equips. One example would be using the diamond to replenish your Mana.

For timing wise, I have achieved about 11 minutes before, but this timing is what I consider to be the "good luck timing", where everything goes according to your plan. My usual is like 13 minutes or something, so if you can get that, do consider it as "you are there" already.

In case you are wondering, my Pumpkin Boss Rush timing is 8:50, but again, this is a "good luck" timing, so... (and there's something about his statistics affecting his hit performance...). As for normal timing, well... I deleted my normal data after playing @CRAZY mode, so no file here ... :)

Duping allowed, but only to save time! No duping of equips, unless they can be dropped from enemies. I allow this is because of mana prisms (though I never adapted to use them myself...). They help if you use a lot of Mana.

Alright... practice is key. I had mine while having fun with the bosses, so I recommend that you keep going through boss rush, but play around with the bosses, and stockpile on food at the same time.

While playing around, I even got myself to Perfect Guard the tempest attacks from Death!...

Fire Elemental

  • Ice Whip
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

Fast Rising + Light Whip

Lightning Elemental

Fast Rising + Light Whip

Whip Doppleganger

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

I started by jumping out and doing a light whip [think 1st attack :) ... ]. I proceeded to watch out for chances to do Fast Rising + Light Whip (as you have seen in my previous fights). If any of these connect, I will repeat it just one more time, then switch to "everyones favourite" (strong-strong-light-strong-light). This whole 9-hit combo will deal the most before Doppleganger dodges. Repeat...

Melee Doppleganger

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

I start by executing High-Speed_Edge, getting another 1st attack... I use the same combo as I used in the Whip Doppleganger fight, because he also know how to dodge. Then I just dodge around and watch for opportunities to repeat my combo...

Undead Parasite

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

I start by executing Spirit_Ripper. Then I just pull combos to finish the 'eye's individually... 1 Spirit_Ripper should last for 2 'eye's. After everything is gone, I wait at the center. When the final part appears, I execute Axe_Trap, then cast Invincible_Jar. I did a quick combo, then stayed back to re-execute Axe_Trap before the previous one totally goes off. After executing the 2 Axe_Trap, I used another "everyone's favourite" to finish it off.

Notes : I executed Axe_Trap so that the final part keeps getting hit, and it won't get to hide. The second Axe_Trap ensures that you can defeat the boss without it getting any chance to hide.

Golem

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

No solid stuff here from me... Sub Weapons make it go into defence, the best is just whipping. Do whatever that you have seen that works best...

As for the 2nd part, I execute Spirit_Ripper and use Fast Rising to deal damage.

Succubus

  • Fire Whip
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

In this run, I count myself lucky, because she just drift towards Leon without attacking or evasion or stuff... So I just start my Fast Rising + Light Whip on her. Talk about who playing who...

At other not so lucky times, I mainly watch out for her magical attack. If I perfect guard that one near her, I will be able to counter attack immediately with that combo. Other than that, its luck I guess...

Other notes : If you are doing that combo, her flowers might distract Leon's direction. I have not found any way around that one...

Medusa

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

For this fight, I cast Invincible_Jar and execute Spirit_Ripper and start my mayhem.

Joachim

  • Ice Whip
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

For his energy balls or something, I just do one Fast Rising for each one. Then I execute Spirit_Ripper, and start my combo. For this run, I was lucky and managed to defeat him in one round. Other times I cast the Black Bishop to try to defeat him in one round.

Forgotten One

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

Starting, I execute Axe_Trap to act as a shield against the maggots while I combo Forgotten One using my Fast Rising + Light Whip (be careful of the blood!). After something drops, the Light Whipping won't hit anymore, so i change my attacks. I execute Spirit Ripper to help with comboing, and use Fast Rising to deal damage. When I land I use Sonic Wave for the maggots.

[not illustrated in video] After another part drops (when you can see the game show the name "Forgotten One"), You can switch back to the 1st tactic.

Forgotten "2"

  • Ice Whip
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

Generally, everytime you attack the fist, use "everyone's favourite" combo. When the hand bleeds, and you have 'nothing to do', use Spinning_Edge and some long-reaching attacks to attack the body.

Forgotten "3"

  • Ice Whip
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Mobius Brooch

I mainly use Strong Whip and Spinning_Edge for this one. You can Quick Step past the breath he uses, then do Step Attack, and follow up the Step Attack with Spinning_Edge. If he drops the boulders and everything, pull your combos with Invincible_Jar (to protect against the falling rocks)

Note : As you can see, I always Quick Step past the breath without taking damage. This is like a trick in the game. When you are in Quick Step, you are invincible, until you land, that is...

Walter

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Ring of Fire

I just pull my mayhem on him until he does his fireball attack, then I cast Invincible_Jar, then unleash Leon's mayhem on him again...

Note that I alternate between my Fast Rising + Light Whip and "everyone's favourite" due to distance problems.

Death

  • Vampire Killer
  • Solar Plate
  • Draupnir
  • Brisingamen
  • Ring of Fire

What mainly helps here is Invincible_Jar and luck (in that Death does not move too much), so that you can keep pulling off your combos. My opinion is that the best part is when he summons his skulls, because you can keep attacking him and cast Invincible_Jar only when the skulls are about to blow.
