Castlevania Symphony of the Night
posted Sunday, July 30, 2006

Hello again! Thanks to DJGrenola for synching the audio!

This run, just like with the Maria run I did earlier, came out of my simply wanting to show the character initially from a request. At the Gaming-Age forum, a poster made a topic about favorite Castlevania characters, and I mentioned hearing about an alternate outfit Richter (I believe it is the artwork version and/or when he is a bad guy in the game regularly). A few people wanted to see what he looked like, which I had not seen myself either, so I made some little videos that turned into a day and a half of playing to get a run with alternate outfit Richter.

To choose the alternate outfit, all you have to do is hold up on the d-pad and press the 'C' button while the cursor is over Richter. This only works on the Saturn version of the game.

I think this version of Richter has more defense. That really annoying spiked ball at the Royal Chapel hurts Richter for almost 60% of his health bar, while with normal Richter it seems to kill him outright or do around 85% or more damage.

The time I got from VirtualDub seems to be around 8:42 from when I can start moving Richter up until where Shaft dies. The run is not as fast as the 7:14 for the PS1 version of the game, but due to what seems to be around one minute of extra load times and the slower play/fps of the Saturn version of the game anyway, I think this is a somewhat comparable run to the PS1 version.

I know I made a couple of big messups, like Death's room, but as it seems to go with all my other runs, I am going to make mistakes and just have to hope that I play the rest of the run decent enough and see what my finishing time is. This run is the result. I hope you enjoy it; I think my supply of stuff I can "run" is pretty much exhausted by now.
