You need to have completed the game at least once, have the 7th character (Old Axe Armor) unlocked and an extra save file.

In your clear file, save the game with Charlotte. When you're ready to do the glitch, go to the clear icon (New Game+) and confirm. Once you're at the option on choosing difficulty, cancel your game and then make a new file (need a free slot). Start the game with Old Axe Armor and you'll notice it'll be Maria instead (no Richter).

Useless glitch since you can't beat the game with only Maria (lack of super jump).
